The Sub-5 Ride for Parkinson's
On the SUNDAY following LABOR DAY, the rolling countryside surrounding Hampshire, Illinois will host TWO GREAT bike rides:
Feature Event – 100 Miles in 5 Hours
The feature event is a team-oriented, 100 mile, timed ride, designed for serious road cyclists striving to achieve their personal best. This event will begin promptly at 7:30 am. When registering for the event, teams and individual riders should choose a category that best matches their targeted time goal and fitness level:
Category 1 – Time Goal < 4:30 - this category contains the fastest teams and individual riders (22+ mph) and will depart the start line first
Category 2 – Time Goal 4:30 – 4:45 – this category (21 – 22 mph) will depart 5 minutes after all the riders from the 1st group depart
Category 3 – Time Goal 4:45 – 5:00 – this category (20 – 21 mph) will depart 5 minutes after all the riders from the 2nd group depart
Category 4 – Time Goal 5:00 – 6:00 – this category (17 – 20 mph) will depart 5 minutes after all the riders from the 3rd group depart
The Sub-5 Ride is limited to 500 registered riders.
Riders must be comfortable riding in a group, whether as a member of a team or as an individual rider. This is a group, team-oriented ride for serious ROAD CYCLISTS. As such the use of time-trial bikes or aero bars is prohibited.
All riders in this timed event must register by September 1, 2013. The registration fee is $95 for those registering by July 31, 2013 and $125 for those registering between August 1 and September 1, 2013. Any rider who collects $300 or more in donations will receive a FREE JERSEY. Note that jerseys can not be purchased and must be earned. All registrations are final and 80% of fees going directly to the Paul Ruby Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. As such, there will be no refunds. Register here.

Recreational Ride
For those who prefer a casual pace, the recreational ride offers an enjoyable, picturesque tour and an opportunity to raise funds for cutting-edge Parkinson’s research.
Cyclists ride at their own pace on a designated course with family, friends, classmates, club members and other riders. The course offers distances ranging from 10 – 60 miles that all begin and end at Hampshire High School. A rest stop is at the Concession Building at Hampshire High School that includes restrooms with flush toilets and hand-wash sinks. Recreational riders will start promptly at 8:30am from Hampshire High School. While there is no limit to the number of participants, riders will be released from the start-line in groups to ensure road safety. Support vehicles will be present along the course to assist riders and ensure a safe and enjoyable ride.
There is no registration deadline for the Recreational Ride. Registrations will be accepted the day of the event. The registration fee is $35 per rider. Register here.

Local hotels are pitching in to help make the 3rd Annual Sub 5 Century Challenge for Parkinson’s Research a continued success by offering interested riders a good night’s sleep before the big ride. Rooms are available at discounted rates for the night of Friday, September 7, 2012.
